PAMS

stands for ‘Parent Assessment Manual’

Being a parent is not easy and every parent has a different style of parenting. If social services have child protection concerns about your children, you may be asked to have a PAMS assessment.

At OGM Supporting Futures, social workers are formally trained to undertake PAM’s assessments in line with the model devised by Dr Sue McGaw, suitable for vulnerable parents and those with learning difficulties. We can provide these assessments within Care Proceedings or Pre-Proceedings to Courts, Local Authorities nationwide.

The PAMS covers areas such as:

  • Childcare and development
  • Behaviour management
  • Independent living skills
  • Safety and hygiene
  • Parental health
  • Relationships and support
  • The impact of the environment and community on parenting

Each parenting skill that falls within a domain is assessed for parental knowledge, quality of parenting skills and frequency of parenting practice. PAM assessment tools such as workbooks and knowledge cartoons provide visual cues when assessing. These tools work well for those parents who find it hard to respond to verbal questions and for parents who may struggle with abstract concepts, such as emotional wellbeing.

We are able to provide PAMS assessments within in a 8-10 week timescale.
